History:

Barmenistan's history begins with the settlement of Qedarite (OOC: Semitic) tribes in early antiquity, and the subsequent colonization of parts of Barmenian territory by the Cildanian Hegemony (~ Carthaginian Empire). The local Qedarite tribes evolved to become the Kathuran people (OOC: Assyrians/Arameans). The Cildanian Hegemony collapsed in 22 CE as a result of the Jelbo-Tukaric migrations, which brought the Jelbo-Tukaric peoples (OOC: Turkic and related peoples) to Majatra. The Jelbo-Tukarics would also settle in large numbers in Barmenistan. During the early Middle Ages the territory of Barmenistan was ruled by various Qedarite-speaking polities, including the Sacred Monarchy of Beiteynu (~ Kingdom of Israel) and the Kingdom of Arakhim (~Osroene/Edessa).

In 1186 a new religion was born in Barmenistan, Ahmadism (OOC: Islam), founded by Prophet Ahmad. After the Prophet's death the Ahmadi Caliphate was established and conquered most of the continent over the following centuries. In 1486 the Caliphate disintegrated into its component parts, while the Caliph remained in power in Barmenistan. The Caliphate was overthrown in 2142 and democracy was established for the first time, although Barmenistan remained unstable and was often brought under dictatorial rule for the following centuries. Beginning with 2804 Barmenistan was brought under the rule of successive foreign powers, including Luthori, Vanuku, and Selucia. The collapse of the Selucian monarchy in 3134 brought Barmenistan under the rule of a new religion born in the nation, Felinism. The remainder of Barmenian history would be marked by religious conflicts between Felinism, Ahmadism, and Hosianism, culminating in the genocide of Felinists in the 39th century and the subsequent establishment of a Kathuran-dominated Hosian monarchy, which would last until 4262 and its eventual replacement with the Thaller Dynasty, a foreign royal family originating on the continent of Artania.

Ethnic groups:

The dominant ethnicity in Barmenistan is the Brmek people, a Jelbic-speaking ethnic group. Brmeks have a culture largely based on Ottoman Turks, and most Brmeks are Ahmadi (Muslim) or Felinist. There are also many other Jelbic-speakers in Barmenistan, with a largely Turkic/Central Asian culture.

Kathurans, based on Arameans/Assyrians, are the largest minority in Barmenistan, and they have inhabited the region since before the settlement of Jelbics. Kathuran speak the Kathuran language and most Kathurans are Hosian (Christian).

There are also significant minorities of Arev Mardik (Armenian), Seluco-Barmenian (mixed Brmek-Selucian, i.e. Roman), Augustan (Byzantine), and Yeudi (Jewish) ethnicity.

Religions:

Being the birthplace of three religions, Ahmadism, Felinism, and the Ruhi Faith, Barmenistan is a religiously heterogeneous country. Barmenistan also has significant Hosian and Yeudi communities.

The most widely practiced religion in Barmenistan is Ahmadism, a religion founded in 1186 that believes Akim to be the only God and Ahmad to be his Prophet. Most Ahmadis in Barmenistan are Israi (Sunni), with a significant Halawi (Alevi) minority.

Felinism is an animalistic religion born in Barmenistan in the 30th century and worshiping cats as divine beings, built upon the shamanistic beliefs of the Jelbic peoples with heavy influences from Selucian Paganism (Roman Polytheism) as practiced by Seluco-Barmenians.

Hosianism is a religion founded in 1 CE that believes Eliyahu of Yishelem to be the Spirit of God and Savior of mankind. The largest Hosian denomination in Barmenistan is the Barmenian Apostolic Church, an autocephalous (independent) member of the Apostolic Church of the East (Oriental Orthodox Churches). The Aurorian Patriarchal Church (Roman Catholic Church) and Oseism (Ebionites) have large minorities.

Many Barmenians adhere to the Ruhi Faith, a new religion founded in 4276 in Barmenistan, based on a belief in the fundamental validity of all religions and the unity of humanity, and believing in a number of successive "Messiahs" identified with the founders of the major religions, the most recent being Ismail Rabban, a 43rd century Barmenian.
