Message | Congress, It appears Congressional Leader Leonardo is struggling to fathom how to construct a basic argument. He merely asserts: "It is ridiculous that some homeless shelters and reintegration projects are being left to the private sector" and notes "profit motive is not appropriate in these environments". He doesn't mention why it is an inherently bad thing for the private sector to operate homeless shelters and claims that it's down to "profit motive". What he omits is that many of these privately run shelters do extreme good, and the people at these private shelters also must have something to live off. Additionally, many privately run shelters are, indeed, operating on a not-for-profit basis. Jacoberius Reeserius-Moggerius Financial Spokeseperson for Forward! |

Message | No. The government should leave this in the capable hands of the market. President Fitzgerald. |

Message | Congressperson Reeserius-Moggerius, I believe I did say why it was an inherently bad thing for homeless reintegration. As you reference yourself it is because of the profit motive. This leads to them not making decisions with the interests of those receiving the service first in mind. And charities are no different, they need to pander to the emotions of potential donors in order to raise money and thus will make decisions based on what seems most morally good to the untrained public rather than what is actually the best thing to do. The fact is that the first concern of the market is not helping people, but raising a profit and that is not compatible with a service designed to help people.
