Description[?]:
We present this motion against the burning of Hans Gluck at the Weisendorf Bonfire Night. We feel it would be incredibly disrespectful to burn the image of man who was murdered so recently by an unknown assailant. We also know it will incite violence, regardless of our condemnation of such a response. |

Message | Mr. Chairman, I also regard the Hans Gluck's nomination for the Weisendorf Bonfire to be unfortunate and distasteful, and I appeal to the organisers not to allow him to be burned in effigy. His death is very recent, and occurred under extremely tragic circumstances, and it must be especially painful to his widow and his family to be watching this course of events unfold. Nevertheless, the point needs to be made that Dorvish is a free society, and citizens do have the right to express themselves, even when it is through gestures we find unpleasant. Hans Gluck was a vigorous participant on the political stage, almost always at the forefront of political debate. It is probably inevitable he will be a subject of comment, both from those who supported him and those who opposed him. Without wishing to sound at all disrespectful, although Hans and I were political opponents, we did get to know each other, and knowing him as I did, I think he would regard it as a tribute to his achievements that in the aftermath of his death, some of his opponents are still attacking him. When that happens, that shows you are a person who mattered and who made a difference. Whilst we in the Communist Party will join with others in calling for Hans Gluck not to be burned in effigy, we would prefer to say this in our own way, and not via the means of voting in favour of this motion. We will therefore be abstaining, although we send our sympathies to Hans Gluck's loved ones. Anton Weinreich General Secretary of the Dorvish Communist Party [Some Communist MPs are heard shouting "Burn the bastard" and "He deserves it!". Weinreich turns around to them, scowls and hisses at them to be quiet.] |

Message | I don't think Gluck would enjoy being burned at all, Weinreich. I think he would be most insulted. But we understand and respect your opinion. As to those Members of yours... Frankly, you disgust me. That is all. Anna Strauss Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Leader |
