Bill: Cutting Ties With Hulstria
Details
Submitted by[?]: Dorvische Nationale Partei
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: December 4307
Description[?]:
We have significantly revised our position on Hulstria. While we wish to protect them from any incoming nuclear attack, we do not support their government’s actions. We propose: 1. The nuclear umbrella is maintained. 2. The Hulstrian Ambassador is asked to leave, alongside any diplomats etc. 3. A trade embargo is placed on the nation, with no Dorvish businesses being able to directly trade with Hulstria under penalty of major fines. 4. Additional immigration checks are put in place. We are always open to suggestions. We will not remove nuclear protection and let them burn and die. We will however cut ties with the nation, to protect Dorvik internationally and protect the *people* of Hulstria. Any sort of military response or resistance will be met with a direct response from Dorvik and an immediate removal of Dorvish nuclear protection. |

Message | Mr. Chairman, We are supporting this bill, not because we agree with every part of it, but simply because it is an obvious improvement upon the status quo. The part we disagree with is the part about keeping Hulstria under Dorvik's "nuclear umbrella". Could the government explain why they want to continue with this policy? In particular, could they explain: 1. Which nation or nations do they fear would attack Hulstria with nuclear weapons? 2. Why do they believe Hulstria is deserving of such special treatment from us? Especially given Hulstria is a very long way away, in distant Dovania, and has one of the most atrocious human rights records of any government in Terra? 3. How do the government imagine maintaining the "nuclear umbrella" will lead to any improvement in the behaviour of Hulstria's government? Message | Anton, thank you for your support and your questions. 1. We have been alerted by the Hulstrian Government of a nuclear threat from an opponent they believe will attack them. We will inform any government partners of whom this threat is if we feel it necessary, but unfortunately we feel it would be dangerous to Dorvik’s national security and standing to announce this information publicly. Regardless, if they feel a threat is incoming, and they have not taken any direct action against us, we will give them our protection, and that goes for any nation on Terra. 2. We believe that nuclear protection and politics are two different things. This is why we wish to cut ties with Hulstria, but not nuclear protection. We believe that nuclear weapons are tools for peace, not destruction, and that we will not let them be used for threatening other nations into agreement. We do not agree with the Hulstrian Government, but we will not let them fall under nuclear attack and let millions of innocent, frankly oppressed people be murdered to depose a government. We developed nuclear weapons to secure peace, not just for ourselves but for all nations on Terra, and we are willing to protect any nation that wishes for us to do so from nuclear destruction. In a sense, all nations are under our nuclear umbrella, but with Hulstria seeming more likely under threat, we are willing to provide more clear protection. It is not about being “worthy” of protection. All nations are “worthy” of nuclear protection. 3. Well, in their own nation, they will likely continue in the same fashion, which is why we are using other methods, such as those outlined above, to discourage them from acting how they are. If they either take direct action against us in any way, or they severely attack or invade another country without reason, we will withdraw that protection. I hope this answers your questions? May I ask if you have any further suggestions to cut ties with Hulstria aside from leaving them open to nuclear mass destruction? Anna Strauss President NP Leader |

Message | Mr. Chairman, We are naturally very pleased to hear the latest news, that the President has agreed to remove Hulstria from Dorvik's "nuclear umbrella" defence pact agreement. Dorvik's shift to a more constructive policy towards Hulstria is most welcome, not only by us, but by many people across both Dorvik and the world. Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature. |
