Bill: Meeting the TPRA target (spending 1% of GDP on overseas aid)

Details

Submitted by[?]: Dorvische Kommunistische Partei

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 4306

Description[?]:

Mr. Chairman,

Dorvik is one of the wealthiest nations in Terra and is privileged to hold a seat on the Security Council. We should do our bit for tacking global poverty, and also set a positive example for other wealthy donations, by meeting the Terran Poverty Relief Association's target for spending at least 1% of our GDP on overseas aid.

Erica Peters
Politburo Member of the Dorvish Communist Party

MessageMr.Speaker,

Such a Steep cut to the Finance Ministry will impact it's operations and my ministry is Also of the view that such a steep hike in spending towards Foreign Affairs is not needed. My Ministry will not endorse rising public spending towards foreign Affairs Department by more than 4 billion in the current situation though we will be looking to achieve the 1% Target in the next few years. So my point is that we have to go slow with regards to achieving the 1% Spending Commitment and such radical measures are not needed.

Julia Schroeder,
Finance Minister

OOC:-Isn"t it that only 0.8% of the GDP is expected to be towards foreign aid in RL?

MessageI would like to assure Ms.Peters that our Government's Commitment to help the most marginalised sections of Terra Has not Changed by even a bit and we do stand in solidarity with the TPRA"s Goals.

MessageTaking money from our country, our police, our courts and giving it to other nations is ridiculous. The way we develop the third world is by trading with them.

MessageOOC: The UN has set a target of 0.7% for the richest RL nations. 1% isn't that far off that, though. Also, bear in mind TPRA is an overseas aid organisation, not the equivalent of the UN.

If Particracy's World Congress ever did get around to discussing overseas aid targets, I suspect the 1% figure would be reduced a little. Maybe to 0.7% or 0.5% or something...
