Voting deadline: October 4309
Description[?]:
Mario Zanussi, Whip and Deputy Leader in the Chamber of Deputies, ULD We want to propose this bill, one that will surely improve the... standards of our parliament. As you may know, many young people wish of becoming the president or prime minister of Istalia in their youth but, with time, those very dreams fade away. Politics, our landscape, are slowly becoming stale. No new blood among us; that is the result of a very simple thing; pay. Why would a youth want to start a political career, and not become a, I don't know, political sciences professor, journalist or commentator? Those jobs offer huge paychecks, unlike politics, but they are still linked to politics. Look at our party; practically everyone, including me, is either a businessman/woman, heir to a fortune, celebrity or any other representant of the higher class. You may say that that's exactly what we want to achieve, so that every parliamentarian will be rich. Well, yes. But we want a change because currently, our politicians are rich because they are politicians, while we want it to look like this; our politicians are rich because they are effective, intelligent and the people trust them! And, also, it can be a sort of motivation for the youth. I can see it; parents won't say; I want you to become a doctor/lawyer. No, they all will say; I want you to become a politician! |

Message | Asterio Scinta, Leader of C.C.: "It has been a long-standing position of the Capitalist Confederation that politics ought not be a career. Yes, we have had our fair share of long-serving parliamentarians, but they have mostly done so after a period in the private sector making a real career for themselves. Why should the Chamber of Deputies vote ourselves a pay increase when so many Istalians are burdened by red-tape that we have created? Why should this be a priority? My party will vote as we always have on matters such as these: No!" |

Message | Ludovica Azuri, PNI/PNP Whip, We agree with the CC, as we believe it is too cynical to increase our own salaries despite our official job descriptions defining us as "Civil SERVANTS". The people do not want to be ruled by rulers fed with taxpayer money, this is not a monarchy. |

Message | Alessandro Eugenio di Nacosia-Rohan, Whip of LP: "Mr Speaker, We will abstain. We think indeed that it is necessary increase the salary, a politician has several expenses to cover, like the rent of an house/appartment in Romula or the voyages between their homes and Romula, and so on, which are things that is not responsability of his party. We think that a compromise solution will be supported by LP" |
