Bill: Agriculture For Malivia Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Greater Malivia Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 4313

Description[?]:

This act aims to bring more government control and power over the world of agriculture.
I as a prideful Malivian believe that our vote should have as much power as possible, and therefore, the government should be as powerful as possible. This power should start with Agriculture. Agriculture can be considered the foundation of almost all societies and throughout history, government control over agriculture has been commonplace. We should follow suit. Malivia should be filled with pride at the glory of our free nation, and power to the people through the elected in necessary in that.

To achieve this goal, agriculture should be run and owned by state and fishing quotas should not be limited by what local governments say.

MessageMr.Speaker,

This Bill Will Result in Two Horrible Things:-
1.It will destroy Agricultural Productivity and Cripple the Livelihood Millions of Kalkali And Esinsundu Families as this will result in the Government unfairly taking away their Land.

2.Snatching away the Ability of the Local Governments to Fix Fishing Quotas is another mistake, because only the Local Governments will know best about their region,The Marine Life in Bhulkhandra will not be as diverse as Washebar"s

MessageMr. Speaker,

I do respect the perspective of the Honourable Gentleman from the People's Party. However, he is simply wrong. Leaving agricultural production in the hands of our esteemed government will do the opposite of reducing agricultural productivity. In fact, the intellectuals of the parliament, like the Honourable Gentleman himself, will only be able to do much more to aid our agricultural productivity.

Furthermore, even if agricultural operations are state operated and families lose land, the will not lose their livelihood and therefore they will not be crippled one bit, in fact, under the government, they will have a much more secure livelihood as the state will be able to manage much more.

In addition, by leaving the fishing quotas in the hands of the local governments, we are instilling much belief in those elected to those local governments; but, surely we should be instilling that belief in the government. Just because the government is not strictly local does not mean they are not knowledgeable about the regions of Malivia, like you said yourself, marine life in Bhulkhandra will not be as diverse as Washebar's, and we know that. So, we should allow the government to be in control of fishing quotas.

MessageMr Speaker

Family farms are the foundation of this country. To seize land from those who have toiled at it for generations is not only an assault upon the liberty of the independent farmer to manage their own affairs, but also an assault upon the culture of the Maldivian people

We acknowledge the zeal of the Honourable Gentleman representing the Greater Malivia Party for agricultural advances, but believe the evidence from overseas does not support his contention that collectivization will bring about improvements.

Furthermore, we believe that the local governments are those in possession of the best knowledge of local fishing and economic conditions, and do not see any benefit to centralising this function.
