Message | We are one of two countries in Terra that have an outright ban on stock exchanges. I hope the WPS won't mind me quoting a recent statement of theirs for reference, "Solentian businesses are managed and administered by the Democratic Workers' Councils which ensure fairness and democracy in production, pay, and innovation. Companies ought to be beholden to no-one besides their workers and the communities whose needs they serve and who are entitled to fair treatment, livelihood, safety, and sufficient pay. The introduction of stockholders with profit-driven interests in industry would make this difficult." The SSRP doesn't necessarily believe that the option of a regulated stock exchange is entirely incompatible with Democratic Workers' Councils. They would be able to control the percentage of their shares available to the public and they will always have the opportunity to buyback their shares. Even Solentian businesses have owners and profit-driven interests, if we're not mistaken. Business should be allowed to do what business does best: Make money. This would provide Solentian businesses a much needed opportunity for capital generation. On the other hand, being one of two countries who are free from stock exchanges is not necessarily a bad thing. Stock exchanges beget crime, they introduce shareholders with only profit in mind, and they destroy the lives of those who make poor investments. Aside from Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) a stock exchange is a zero-sum game: Every dollar earned is at the expense of someone else who lost that dollar. This is a difficult vote for us to make. We will take some time to think it over. Your insights are valued, as always. |

Message | Democratic workers council are a typical example of the cancer eating into the economic power of Solentia. They should be abolished and their leader jailed. |
