Bill: Smoking Reform Bill
Details
Submitted by[?]: Monarchist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 2194
Description[?]:
We hereby propose the striking down of all legislation that prohibits or bars in any form, manner, or shape the consumption of traditional tobacco cigarettes. We argue that to place restrictions on smoking is to attempt to control the relative health of the people of Aloria; and we feel strongly that domestic issues belong to no government. Scientific documentation of the matter is shaky; it is impossible to prove that secondhand smoke is as dangerous as the alarmists among us might argue. We support fully the designation of non-smoking areas in restaurants and bars; and support the right for private individuals and companies to restrict smoking on or within their own property; but that is not a decision for the government to make. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change Government policy towards smoking.
Old value:: Smoking regulations are to be determined by local governments.
Current: Smoking is legal outdoors and in private homes and clubs, but illegal indoors in places of employment, with the exception of places that primarily serve liquor.
Proposed: Smoking is legal everywhere, at the discretion of the property owner, and is legal in government-owned buildings.
