| Today in front of the entire house, Mr. Hamilton of the RCA threatened my life. I have decided to accept his proposal and bring this proposal before you, noble men and women of the house. That I; Chief Walking Bear, be allowed to duel Thomas Hamilton to the death in public on the steps of the house of representatives. And let it be known that the duel shall not be over until either of us lie dead on the steps of the Capitol. This is a formal challenge to Thomas Hamilton, let it be known that if he refuses he is a coward and we will dub him in our tounge: Rat-of-the-Capitol, coward and weakling. Specifics of the duel will be decided upon passing of the bill. When the duel of honor is concluded, if it be the desire of the house and government we would support restoration of the illegality of dueling.
