MessageMr Speaker,

My question is to the minister of finance. We are now more than 1 year removed since the last election and we have still not seen a budget passed. During the four years before the election, I proposed 2 budgets, both failing due to poor attendance from other cabinet members. We tried to address the need to increase our healthcare budget to meet the needs of the federal healthcare system that had been created by a previous government. My question to the minister is, when will we see a new budget that addresses the needs of our healthcare system?

I understand the concern mr. Houston about the funding of our healthcare system. Our healthcare system lack proper funding and as the minister of Finance, it is my top priority to change that situation. A new budget shall be propose in the next few months.

MessageMr Speaker,

While I am glad that the Minister of Finance is actually going to propose a budget, it is just not acceptable that she has taken this long to do it. Well over a year removed from the last election and we are still waiting. This is completely unacceptable and the people of this nation deserve better.

MessageMr Speaker,

Firstly I must say that it is an honor to stand today and ask my first question as an MP in the same building where my grandmother, Elizabeth Jones served for nearly 3 decades.

My question is for the Minister of Health and Social Services. This parliament passed a bill nearly 5 years ago entitled "Healthcare Reform Bill June 4335". That bill created a federal healthcare system. Soon after the passage of that bill, an election was held and my colleague, the member for Glentingham East, took over the role of Minister of Finance. She tried twice to pass a budget to address the fact that the system is severely underfunded. Both of those budgets failed to pass due to other members of the government coalition being absent from the vote. Can the minister explain how it is fair to allow the provinces to continue providing the bulk of the funding to a federal healthcare system?
