| The national motto states 'regnat populus', and then translates it as 'let the people rule.' Literally, that translates as 'the person is a king.' The correct Latin is 'Regant populi,' Let the People Rule!, if you mean a jussive construction (You will it to be so), or ' Permittite populos regere' if you mean 'Allow the People to Rule.' The first, we feel, is more poetic and perhaps best captures the intended spirit. |
