Bill: Ban on animal testing

Details

Submitted by[?]: Lodamun Centre-Left Coalition

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 2063

Description[?]:

This bill would criminalise the use of animals in testing cosmetic products. This is similar to the bill "Animal Rights" proposed by the NFL, defeated January 2049.

In discussion about that bill, the CCF stated that "if animal testing contributes to human health by allowing safe drugs to be developed, the CCF is in favour of conducting it to a limited extent." In this case, we would like to note that these are cosmetic products, and not drugs, as stated by the CNT/AFL in that prior discussion.

MessageThe Council notes that seeing as cosmetics must also be tested for SAFETY, this testing contributes to human safety. Do the other parties not believe that there are chemicals in cosmetics that may end up harmful to humans?

MessageHow will they know that they're harmful until some human tries it and suffers? It's better than an animal be used for testing than a human.

MessageAnimals are living organisms, they have as much rights as humans in the view of the MLP. Perhaps the best way were to ban such products totally, but since there isn't an option for it...

MessageWe urge the Council and SAP to reconsider. Perhaps the makers of these products could try them on their spouses. (( meh :P ))

MessageAnimals do not have the same rights as humans in the view of the Council. A human life is far more valuable to us than an animal's. We do not see them of being of equal value.

MessageIt is nice to see that the PACF will continue to attempt to injure and kill human beings even if they do stop their overt violence.

MessageHow will they know what the necessary precautions are if they don't know what harmful effects a product might have? This is one issue where the Council does regulate the market, as refered to in the PACF democratic principles bill debate. Without testing, companies could possibly release products that are rather harmful, without even realizing what harmful effects are being caused. Or does the MLP intend to begin essentially saying what people can and cannot buy?

MessageThe Council is appalled that so many of our peers believe the life of a human to be more expendable than that of an animal.

MessageThe CNT/AFL believes that the life of an animal is more important than appealing to the narcissism of humans.

MessageYou have it. The parliamentary CCF has now formed a coalition with some environmental organizations. By a 2-1 decision of the temporary steering committee of the CCF-Greens (one member abstaining), we are voting for this bill in defence of the principles of deep ecology.
