Message | The Progressive Conservatives believe that abortion is one of the most challenging and complex issues facing any society. It inherently creates a conflict of rights that we, as a government, must find a way to balance. Certainly, women do have a fundamental right to reproductive freedom and to autonomy over their bodies. But it is tough to dispute that the developing fetus inside of a woman's body is not merely an appendage of a woman's body, but a separate, unique individual with a cellular makeup entirely different from the mother. At some point the rights of the fetus must also be considered. The Progressive Conservatives believe that our current policy is the most humane solution a nation can adopt. It allows women to exercise their right to bodily autonomy within a reasonable amount of time. But prevents abortion procedures after the first trimester once those procedures are able to cause pain to the developing fetus. Any abortion that can be felt by the developing fetus is inhumane and should not be tolerated by a just society. Juan Pablo Cabal PCP Parliamentary Spokesperson |
