Details

Submitted by[?]: Haaretz (הארץ)

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 4351

Description[?]:

This bill allows local governments to create and manage their own police forces.
Currently, the entirety of law enforcement lies in the hands of private security firms... This is undesirable, as it places our populace in the hands of mercenaries and thugs.

MessageHow nice of you to include among other things the ignorant view of private security typical of statists who can't seem to imagine a security force not under the control of the government.

MessageMy party doesn't see a problem with sub-contracting the police force. They are operating under the same regulations and rules as any other police force. But this way, they have even greater incentive to protect their fellow citizens as best, efficiently, and nobly as they can. Because, if crime in districts handled by one firm is going down, and crime in districts handled by another firm is going up, we can always give the more districts to the more efficient firm. It's policing where the best police get paid more, and police more areas. They aren't thugs any more than any other police are. They follow the same rules. Besides, it's not like they are rowdy biker gangs. They're security professionals who are trained, and probably a considerable number of them are military vets who now have jobs.

MessageKadima Beiteynu, thank you for making an argument and clarifying your party's position.

Our party worries that if we hire out these responsibilities, there's an extra element of risk that wouldn't exist if law enforcement was under local government. This risk, while it may work in other areas of the private sector, is not worth sacrificing our people's security.

Example: Under current law, police firms are held accountable because we pay them better than all outside forces... Who's to say that a citizen with enough money, or even a foreign government, would not offer a better deal? Then we would be left with a rogue police force that we cannot disband, accountable only to the highest bidder.

If we instead delegate this responsibility to local governments, the police would be directly accountable to the communities they serve.

Random fact: The voters enjoy active parties who take upon themselves the initiative to create laws.
