| Worker ownership of industries is a fine and idealistic idea on paper. It sounds democratic and promises economic equality and prosperity for the workers. But in practice it is a terrible idea and the main cause of Barmenistan's immense unemployment and economic stagnation. When worker ownership was introduced, the workers raised their own wages, improved their working conditions, and cut their own working hours. They introduced more leisure and diminished productivity, and as a result overall productivity in Barmenistan fell drastically. Worse, the law ultimately led to a large increase in unemployment, as the current workers controlling the industries want to avoid diluting the value of their self-increased wages and thus hire at a minimum. For this reason the Enlightenment Party will introduce a ban on all "democratic workers' councils" and will privatize all such industries. In order to achieve this goal we call for the termination of our membership in the International Labor Rights Treaty. Until then, the Federal Republic shall end its productivity-destroying and unemployment-generating policy of mandating worker control over all businesses. |
