Bill: Housing Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Democratic Workers Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 4363

Description[?]:

The low-income citizens of this country deserve to be provided the security of a roof over their heads.
This security allows the freedom to take a more active role in society and contribute positively to the economic and social health of the nation
It is insufficient to simply provide rent supports, as it is our responsibility to guarantee availability and ensure demand does not outstrip supply in the housing market.

MessageThe current system already works well. This program was eliminated in the first place because it costs too much and is less effective than subsidies. We vote negatively.

FromFreedom and Liberty Party of Kalistan
ToDebating the Housing Act
MessageWe will vote negatively as this will cost too much money and lower standards.

FromNational Conservative Party
ToDebating the Housing Act
MessageWe would vote to increase rent subsidies but feel housing would be of higher quality if left to the private market.

FromDemocratic Workers Party
ToDebating the Housing Act
MessageWe recognise the potential cost of this proposal but believe it is a necessary expense to provide for the worse off in society. Rent subsidies are not sufficient as they only raise the cost if rent and place greater glburden on low income families rather than alleviating it.

MessageThe private rental sector can only be improved by this proposal as it allows rental price's to change with market conditions rather than be artificially inflated by the presence of subsidies.

ToDebating the Housing Act
MessageRent subsidies actually do quite the opposite, they pay for a portion of the of low-income families' rent. And this also won't allow the private sector to improve, it'll take opportunities way from the private sector.

MessageThat's not always how subsidies work. Seeing a renter qualifying for rent supplement, property owners increase rent they would have otherwise offered as the renter can afford more.than previously.

MessageFurther, on the side of principles. Our citizens deseve the dignity afforded by security of tenure.and not have their tenure dependent upon the provision of benefits, but should be given the opportunity to one day own their own homes

Random fact: "OOC", "IC" and "IG" are commonly-used acronyms in Particracy. "OOC" refers to comments, discussions and actions which are out-of-character, meaning they are done player-to-player rather than party-to-party. "IC" refers to in-character interactions (ie. party-to-party). Similarly, "IG" means in-game, although this term may also simply refer to what happens in the actual game interface, as opposed to on the forum or elsewhere. "RP" just means "role-play".

Random quote: We are in politics not because we hate our fellow man, but because we love him. ~ Anton Weinreich, General Secretary of the Dorvish Communist Part
