Message"Naturally we support the lowering of the sales tax for essential goods, but we would like to remind the PNP that the 'successful' management of the economy by the PNP has mostly consisted of tax increases for low income earners for the benefit of lower taxes for the rich, resulting in a reduced consumption and, as a consequence, in a reduction of our GDP from 8,738,010,976,155 TUK before the tax change orgy to currently 8,225,886,786,246 TUK.
Since when is causing an economic recession regarded as a success? The ill-conceived and incomeptently implemented economic policies of the PRT are bad for the people of Tukarali in more ways than one."

MessageI'd like to point out that the Finance Ministry is held by the PRT rather than by the PNP.

ooc: UDT do you have a record of stats? It would be useful if you could publish them somewhere where we can all see them? Do you have the unemployment figures as well because it would be helpful to know if unemployment has changed. I assume that any time there is a tax change the GDP/unemployment figures move as well? It is interesting that GDP went down without having a knock on effect with the income tax raisedm or maybe it did I have no way of verifying.

Anyone I'd be most interested in seeing the figures if you could share them, perhaps we should keep a record on the nation front page?

MessageOOC. I don't keep a full record of stats, I've just taken to jotting down a few numbers, not even the full economic statistics when the PPNT stated boasting about their economic succeses.

Just before the first successful tax proposal by the PRT the GDP stats were like this:

Consumption 5,785,776,493,295 TUK 66.21%
Government 1,826,250,000,000 TUK 20.90%
Investment 1,125,984,482,860 TUK 12.89%
Net Exports 0 TUK 0.00%
GDP 8,738,010,976,155 TUK 100.00%

and this is the satus at the time of writing.

Consumption 5,332,290,343,578 TUK 64.77%
Government 1,826,250,000,000 TUK 22.18%
Investment 1,074,087,897,955 TUK 13.05%
Net Exports 0 TUK 0.00%
GDP 8,232,628,241,533 TUK 100.00%

The reduction in GDP is mostly down to a reduction in consumption, probably caused by the the PRT proposal actually raising the tax rate for lower incomes. And when it comes to regular everyday consumption, the rich may spend more per head, but the less well-off are actually more people, and if they suddenly have a reduced net income, they have to make savings and overall consumption goes down.

Unemployment (or rather, employment) figures a only available for the regional level, and I can't really say if anything much has changed.

Messageooc: Thats really cool! I do remember in another nation someone marginally tinkering with the tax variables to produce incremental changes in the GDP but I didn't pay enough attention. It is a shame the economic side was never developed in the game, even adding up budget surpluses/deficits overtime would have been interesting, or adding a random economic growth/recession elements and an effect on votes would have been cool.

MessageOOC: Small cuts in tax rates while trying not to adversely affect GDP by too much is basically what I've been trying to do for a while. However, I haven't always been consistent, and from time to time parties with radical tax cut plans succeeded in pushing them through, and afterwards I had to try to get back to the former state, and whenever I felt confident that I could risk another small cut, another radical tax cut party came along ...
I certainly agree that it's a pity that the economic system was never completely developed, and economic policies having an effect on votes would be awesome.

Random fact: When your party holds the foreign affairs department, you can create new treaties. However, before writing anything new, it is a good idea to search for existing treaties which already accomplish what you desire.

Random quote: "The answer to global warming is in the abolition of private property and production for human need. A socialist world would place an enormous priority on alternative energy sources. This is what ecologically-minded socialists have been exploring for quite some time now." - Louis Proyect
