Bill: Electric Grid Nationalization Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Kalistani Workers Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 4365
Description[?]:
Recognizing that under current law the electric grid in Kalistan is owned and operated by private companies, and seeing as that private companies don't have a financial incentive to build up new infrastructure, upgrade said infrastructure, or expand in rural areas because they essentially hold a monopoly over any customers who want electricity in the area they manage and because these activities are ultimately bad for their bottom line, this bill would transfer control of the electric grid to the government in order to ensure that the electric grid is properly maintained and that small businesses and customers can be sure that their electricity is always delivered in a timely and efficient manner. |

Message | There isn't a monopoly, if you'd actually read the current policy of the law you're trying to change, you'd see that it clearly states multiple companies owns parts of the electric grid, which means there is, like in most capitalist economies, a competition between companies making them upgrade their infrastructure and services. Even if there was a monopoly, it's still a little outrageous to say that an electric company would neglect their customers to the point of allowing their infrastructure decay enough to severely harm the transit of energy from the company to the buyer. |

Message | Obviously I can read and see that multiple companies own the electric grid, what I'm saying is that there can't be competition because certain areas of the grid are only serviced by certain companies. It's not like 5 companies are going to be creating competing grid sections just to get the money from one or two households. This means that there isn't real capitalist competition, meaning companies who are smart and trying to make a profit have exactly zero financial incentive to give their customers the latest and greatest technology when their customers can't switch over to another electric company. When we're thinking about what's best for the actual people of Kalistan rather than the big electric utilities it's clear that a nationalized grid is the only way to ensure high quality service that reaches all areas of the country. |

Message | Still, there are better alternatives than nationalizing a section of the economy and taking away even more of the economic freedom of Kalistan. |

Message | What alternatives do you have exactly? See, you act like this plan is somehow completely off the wall and insane, but you have acknowledged the problem it aims to address and you aren't doing anything to fix it. |
