Bill: D.d.l.: 02/4277: Religious Freedom

Details

Submitted by[?]: Nuova Unione

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 4378

Description[?]:

Adana al-Qhim, Minister of Justice

We are a country without a state religion. However, not having a state religion does not mean that the lack of religion is the state religion. It means that everyone, be it someone belonging to the largest religious group in the country, or a person of a niche religion, has the right to pray to whatever god they wish, without the state intervening. They don't even have to be religious at all; our current policy means that we respect people from every religion. And, as I assume, a step in the direction of furthering that thought would be allowing our officials to enjoy those freedoms, too, and to enable foreign missionaries, or even propagators of atheism, to freely promote their beliefs in Istalia.

MessageMaurizio de Fiore, LdC Party Leader:

Mr speaker,

We believe that the proposed laws are not sufficient enough in protecting the people of Istalia from radical/extremist religious propaganda. We are willing to discuss article 1, but unfortunately article 2 is non-negotiable.

Thank you.

MessageMaria Donati, Whip of AR:

"Mr Speaker,
despite we could support the article 1, due to the fact that we believe in the right of every person to spread its belief - until it doesn't promote violence or acts against the Law - we cannot accept the second article.
An official of the State should represent the State before the citizens and like the State, which is secular, also the official have the duty to reppresent the secularism of the State. He cannot risk to undermine the confidence of the citizens for the State, he cannot risk to "intimidate" this or that citizen with the exposed religious symbol or transmit the idea that its decisions or functions could be influenced by his religious faith!
For this reason we vote against this bill!"

But, Ms Donati, the citizens are the state, and they are the only body that politicians represent.

"Mr al-Qhim,
We cannot deny the existence of a distinct "apparatus" which we call the State, well distinct from the citizen, from its personal but also, in part, its public life. And it's the same for politicians and public officials.
and that entity which is the state, before the public must show its secularity. "
