MessagePornography wil always exist as well as prostitution, in some way shape or form. Regulated pornography will ensure that no abuses will occur.

MessageThan how can you explain the complete and total non-existance of each in Communist China from 1949 until the early 1980s, when China opened up to the west? Just try to beat that.

MessageFirst off, I was reffering to the beliefs of the Chinese Communist Party, as well as the USSR, the political and ideological beliefs, not the societal beliefs. Second, no perfect communist state has ever been achieved, that is obvious.

Yo, before you start trying to give ME a history lesson, you should probably know that the party running China is the "Chinese Communist Party", a one-party state. Communist parties see prostitution and pornography as the greatest evil vices of capitalism. Lenin and Mao are rolling over in their graves right now...
Because somebody who "claims" to know communist ideology, clearly has no concept of true communist ideology.

MessageTOTAL non-existence is a term that can not be used without considerable evidence. I can not believe that pornography in any form did not exist in China. Drugs and weapons can and are sold on the black market, and something as easily concealable as pornography could have existed. Of course, the tight-lipped Chinese government would never admit to any faults, especially in its early "glory days."
During this same time period, millions of people were starved, imprisoned, of executed by the "communist regime." The only way Mao could enforce his strict, unreasonable, and unfeasible policies were through mass arrests and executions. His draconian restriction on the markets led to starvation, poverty, and an overall decrease in the standard of living.
Mao banned prostituion because he wanted to end the abuses that prostitutes suffered. The brothels were unregulated and unprotected by the government, which eventually led to violent or depraved men who scarred and harmed women. I know that he did not believe that the "greatest vice" of capitalism was prostitution. If that were really true, then the government today would continue to zealously and militarily enforce the ban on prostitution, instead of focusing on the real "vices of capitalism."
Furthermore, the fact that his policies did not last is more proof of the fallibility of his ideas. Do we really want to pursue a policy that ultimately failed the country, and only led to more prostitution and pornography? Regulation, not prohibition, is the key to a successful domestic policy.

MessageYou clearly were not paying attention to the words I had written above in the last comment. Pornography and Prostitution exclusively existed in the four southern economic zones created by Deng Xiao Ping in the early to mid 1980s, these zones were open to western ideas and a form of "market socialism" as the CCP called it. While prostitution and pornography were not suppresed in these exclusive areas, the CCP maintained their totalitarian ideals in the remainder of the country, especially the countryside where the majority of the population resides. Deng's government was not the invasive totalitarian state which Mao was able to create until his death in 1976. Mao effectively shut China off from all outside influences until 1971 with President Nixon's visit. I am not saying the Deng's China was any less totalitarian than Mao's; criminals are still exicuted in mass demonstrations to the Chinese people, nearly 10,000 every year, yet Deng's pragmatic views allowed him to realize that by allowing the relaxation of hard line CCP ideals in these 4 zones, could greatly benifit China, allowing it to become a greater world power, which I'm sure we can all see has worked out wonderfully. Another point which you seemed to have overlooked is that the belief that prostitution and pornongraphy were the "most evil vices of capitalism". This fact was not only true in China, but also in the USSR, as well as all other states striving for communist ideals. These two vices are seen as the worst forms of capitalism, as one literally sells themselves; completely against basic communist ideal of equality for all laborers. Each of these vices remains supressed in the majority of China, the only exception being coastal ports, (these zones now have been increased in number to nearly 20), which are run economically by what the CCP describes as "market socialism".

In short, don't try to explain history to me. Especially when you are not completely informed of the facts.
