Bill: Motion to Establish a Referendum Regarding the MACEA

Details

Submitted by[?]: Legio Nationalis

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 4381

Description[?]:

Senators,

Our country sold out our people when they enlisted Selucia into the corrupt organization known as the Majatran Alliance and Common Economic Area almost 60 years ago. The rest of Majatra has so far benefited from Selucian inclusion into this organization, while we have seen nothing but disappointment and losses on all accounts:

- We have been forced into an agreement of mutual defense with the numerous other member states, and I need not remind this body of how many of these member states are currently controlled by ruthless dictators constantly rattling sabers with each other. If war breaks out, Selucian blood will be spilled needlessly on foreign soil for vague, idealistic notions of international harmony.
- We have been forced to forego forging our own defense and foreign policy for the common interest of Majatran nations, which has often proven to be against our interests and infringes upon our Elyon-given right to determine our own path for our own nation.
- We have been forced to agree to a free trade arrangement that seeks to integrate international economies and industries. This potentially will have severe economic consequences for Selucian industries struggling to produce goods cheaper than less-developed nations throughout Majatra that do not hold their industries to basic working regulations that we recognize.

In short, our top priority should always be the growth and benefit of the Selucian state, and this international agreement conflicts with this ideal by demanding that our priority be the growth and benefit of the other Majatran nations that would just as soon stab us in the back as they would aid us in any way. It is therefore our recommendation that the Senate hereby cut our ties with this organization and focus on helping our government craft a foreign policy that will benefit Selucia more than any other nation on Terra.

Upon passage of this bill, a popular referendum will be given to all eligible Selucian citizens concurrently with the next national election in 4382, to decide on Selucia's continued future with the organization.

MessageOOC: We can do it like it's been done in other nations: each party designates the percentage of its voters that vote "Yes" and "No" beforehand, and after the elections we do the math to see the final result of the simulated referendum.

MessageOk. Are there any guidelines for designating that percentage? My party, for instance, I think the percentage would be rather high, but I don't want to give an absurdly high number that wouldn't be realistic

MessageOOC: I don't think there's any guidelines, at least not as far as I've seen in other places.

MessageI think how we can do it then is have every party give their percentage of "Yes" and "No" voters as it has been done previously. Those percentages will then be used to calculate the results in the next national election.

For the LN, the percentages will be 86% Yes and 14% No
