Details

Submitted by[?]: Alianța Liberalilor

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 4382

Description[?]:

The Medinese Empire has declared war on the Republic of Statrica. We have helped the Statrican government since the civil war to become a fully functional state. But with the illegal attack by Medina on Statrica, our work might be destroyed. The Statrican government has requested our help and we want to help. We immediately open the vote on this bill, as it is extremey importand to respond fast.

OOC: By agreeing to this bill you are consenting to the whole RP event of the Medinan war led by LewisElder. I already RP'ed with him during the Statrican Civil War and I have fond memories of that RP event.

MessageHonourable Deputies,

Why should New Endralon interfere in what is clearly not our business. We have a government who is thirsting for war out in the middle of Dovani, whilst sitting back and letting Communist forces violate the sovereignty of the rightful Egelion government and allowing illegal weapons trades across the borders. It puzzles us how the Government can be so hellbent on participating in some meager skirmish in the developing world, whilst ignoring the troubles being faced by a strategic, and long-term ally at our border.

Until the government drops the National Security Act, and authorises a military campaign with the consent of the Egelion government to take back the region of Caille and stamp out any possible Communist threat, it is unfeasible for the PITR to support any military action abroad. Let us remind ourselves that this threat is not just a threat to our neighbours, but also to us. Communist rallies have started to become commonplace in our cities, and there is a dark underbelly in our society who support this illegal action. However, the government refuses to take the necessary measures to deal with it.

Meanwhile, the government insists upon pressing ahead in attacking a sovereign entity which has done New Endralon no harm. We feel the government is feeling nostalgic for the days where colonialism and western interventionism was deemed acceptable. It talks about "our work" being destroyed. We may have done the courteous thing of setting Statrica up, but there is a point where we have to say 'you are on your own now,' and let them deal with the inevitable foreign threats that are faced by every nation.

For this reason, we shall oppose, and prevent New Endralon from entering the war. If the government wish to return to the Chamber having successfully returned the region of Caille to the Egelion government, then we shall perhaps reconsider. Until then, we cannot authorise the unnecessary involvement of our nation in some petty scrap.

MessageHonourable Deputies,

It is unbelievable that people can think this way. Apparently some people would support military action against a threat against our nation, but when the threat can be solved with strict border security it is too restrictive. But this is not even what this bill is about.

What this bill is about is the moral obligation to support sovereign states when their independence is challenged. When you think that defending a third world nation from a agressive regime is colonialism I would call a doctor. And to say that of a nation which itself has suffered as a colony for many years is unacceptable. The Medinese dictator has shown no mecry in his endless campaign to become a global power by conquering all smaller nations nearby. We have to stop this, unless you want this to go on and let Medina take control of the third world.

MessageHonourable Deputies,

I stand and make this speech, facing a difficult decision. With a majority of just one, my party naturally relies on my loyalty to be more than firm when presenting legislation to the House. And perhaps, if I were acting alone, then it is plausible that one may question my allegiance and my position within my party. However, I speak before the Chamber today, voicing the support of a fellow 27 Deputies from the PITR, who believe that it is right and proper for us to take necessary action in regards to the Medinese Crisis.

New Endralon is in a position of care, and responsibility when it comes to foreign affairs, and that is something that we must all accept and realise. We are in the privileged position of having the resources, and the financial and military capability or protecting ourselves from foreign threats. Why should it be that other weaker nations, who have less resources, are the ones who suffer at the hands of vicious and aggressive imperialists such as the Medinese Empire. There is no moral justification for New Endralon to stay out of this conflict.

Furthermore, it is most worrying the phrases with which, my Honourable Friend, the Leader of the Three Republics Independence Party, Mr Florentina, describes the Medinese Empire. Instead of condemning the illegal actions of the Medinese Empire, he instead describes the Empire, and I quote him from earlier in this debate, as "a sovereign entity which has done New Endralon no harm." Whilst, naturally, for my Honourable Friend is a sensible man, this does not condone the actions of the Medinese Empire, it creates a sense of apathy in terms of the actions of the Empire. As a wise man once said, 'The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.' If we allow ourselves to sit back, the Medinese Empire, will as the High Chancellor pointed to, take control of the Third World.

And will it be at this point that New Endralon notices? When Medina is at the gates Eroncourt, the Capital of Lourenne, and we have a duty as per the articles of the Northern Council to intervene. For us to turn aside because it does us no harm is a ludicrous proposition. Eventually, with our lack of initial involvement, we would be faced with an adversary that very poses a threat to our national sovereignty. Am I saying that the Medinese Empire would ever possess the means to pose a threat to our country? Perhaps not, no. However, were we to reject military action, it would set a dangerous precedent for the future.

I will, however, voice some support for my party. And that is its firm belief in taking military action in Egelion. If we apply the logic which I have just made apparent in the necessity of entering the war between Statrica and Medina, to the situation in our neighbour's country, it is necessary that we do not just take passive action and protect our own border. Yes restricting gun laws and immigration might help in the short term. But suppose that the communists do grab power in Egelion. Suddenly we are faced with a much large scenario than we are currently. We have the opportunity to prevent this nightmarish situation from occurring, but only if we act swiftly and decisively in the returning of Caille to the Egelion Government.

Regardless, this debate is not a matter over whether this Chamber should authorise military action in Egelion, but whether it should authorise military action in Dovani. We not only have an obligation to the people of Statrica to maintain their right to sovereignty, but must also bear in mind our own sovereignty and the risks we create in sitting apathetically aside whilst the future of the Third World is decided by other parties. Therefore, in returning to the matter I posed at the beginning in regards to whether it would be plausible to question my allegiance and loyalty to my party, I believe that it would not be so, and that it is necessary, for all of us in this Chamber to put aside party politics, and hold up the common interest of the nation, and of our nation. Consequently, I must vote with my conscience on this matter, and support military intervention in Dovani.

MessageHonourable Deputies,

First we want to thank the 28 deputies represented by Sherap Magyar for taking their responsibility. They are on the good side of history, and the Statrican people will be gratefull..

To respond to the Egelionese crisis, we believe it will soon come to an end. When Mr Florentina called for intervetion, there were peacetalks in Egelion. Unfortunetaly those negotiations broke down. But the 2nd ceasefire negotiations are looking very good, and we are confident that the Egelionese government will soon regain controll over its whole territory (http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=566154). That shows us the power of silent diplomacy, instead of military force. In the Statrican situation we are past the point of diplomacy.
