Message | Mr. Speaker, I must implore some of my more conservative friends in this Diet to vote in favour of this bill. I am as much in favour of the free market and lessening regulatory burdens on firms as the next person -- however, it is important that we recognise that it is not about economic freedom at all costs, it is about recognising the costs of economic freedom and working to lessen those drawbacks. As such, it is crucial that we implement sensible advertisement controls: demerit goods are demerit goods for a reason, so it is quite simply common sense that we discourage consumption of harmful substances at all costs. Moreover, it is essential that we ensure the safety and wellbeing of consumers. If we do not do this, then we are merely burdening public healthcare infrastructure in Luthori. It is simply a waste of taxpayers' money, and I can guarantee you, Mr. Speaker, that they would not appreciate this. Benedict Kennedy Leader of the Conservative Party |

Random fact: When your party holds the foreign affairs department, you can create new treaties. However, before writing anything new, it is a good idea to search for existing treaties which already accomplish what you desire. |
