Bill: Reform Party Bill 22 - Mashacara Slavery

Details

Submitted by[?]: Liberal Party of Hutori

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill proposes the withdrawal from a treaty. It will require half of the legislature to vote in favor[?]. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 4391

Description[?]:

To deal with the issue of Mashacara people draining the taxpayer. The Reform Party proposes Mashacara to be utilised as slaves. We believe it is time they contributed something to the economy of Hutori and society as a whole. Not only will this give them skills in the workplace, this could allow them to eventually hold jobs elswhere.

We ask you support withdrawing from this treaty so that we can allow for the Mashacara to be treated as they deserve.

MessageMr. Speaker,

It was my intention not to even dignify this ludicrous bill with a response. However, I am academic by training, and academics are always in the hunt for a "teachable moment." As my "honourable" friends in the "Reform" party seem so out of touch with reality, that I feel it is my duty as foreign minister to educate them. I will not speak of the moral ills related to slavery; the Reformers are too far out of the mainstream to truly understand moral values. I will speak only of my expertise - foreign relations. When Saridan introduced the slave trade to its shores, the global community rose up against the practice. Many countries, including our own, joined in sanctioning the government of that country and continue to do so to this day. Furthermore, my honourable friend, the member for for Aylesbury South, and I were called into an emergency meeting with our military allies in the Northern Council for ongoing talks of military intervention in Saridan. Introducing slavery is a prelude to war - a war in which none of us wants to engage.

I plead with the Reformers, please drop this bill. Please apologize to the Mashacara people. Stop this downward spiral before you take the rest of Hutori with you into the moral sewer of the world.

Dr. Constance Okafor,
MP for St. Anselm West
Deputy Leader and Chief Whip, New Liberals
Government Foreign Minister

MessageMr. Speaker,

We support withdrawing from political treaties that do not serve to protect global environmental stability and scientific progress. That said, the Ataraxian Confederation cannot support any policy that endorses slavery and must vote against this bill. We stand in solidarity with the others here in saying this: Long live the free Mashacara people!

- Pete Thompsett
Ambassador of the Ataraxian Confederation
