Description[?]:
Hey folks, Looking at our provincial flags, I couldn't help but think that they are... well... kinda ugly. More than anything, they have no coherence to each other, or to the province which they are meant to represent: Han: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/particracy/images/2/25/Flag_of_Quibashi.PNG/revision/latest?cb=20090908144409 ↳ This flag presents a sort of Southeast Asian buddhist temple, while Han is the centre of our confucian religion. Further, this flag was used when Indrala was a very different country, many RL years ago... Shu: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/particracy/images/1/1f/Flag_of_Mishari_Karula.PNG/revision/latest?cb=20090908144140 ↳ A completely different colour scheme, size and it includes a lion, which is very disconnected from most of our national symbols. Anle: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/particracy/images/c/cc/Flag_of_Akuzia.PNG/revision/latest?cb=20090908144317 ↳ A low-resolution copy, more or less, of the Kuomintang flag. I would suggest we replace it with something more original. Jiaozhi: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/particracy/images/2/20/Jiaozhiflag-0.png/revision/latest?cb=20180126051257 ↳ A flag I made, but which honestly I do not like. Min: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/particracy/images/8/8b/Flag_of_Kathuran.PNG/revision/latest?cb=20090908144247 Alternatively, many other countries have a far more cohesive design of their provincial flags. Examples: • Sekowo: http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/Sekowo#Administrative_Divisions • Dankuk: http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/Dankuk#Administrative_Subdivisions • Hulstria/Gao-Soto: http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/Hulstria_and_Gao-Soto#Crownlands • Jelbania: http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/Jelbania#Administrative_divisions I think we should redesign our provincial flags with a general set concept. Here are two options I thought of, although these are in no way binding, nor do I think that these flags are completed/good enough, as I was feeling rather uncreative today: • https://i.imgur.com/oIoEzaC.png ↳ Each provincial flag is this shape, with the border matching the border of the national flag. Colours of the main area can vary by province, along with the symbol, which should be white. • https://i.imgur.com/jiix9KJ.png ↳ Each provincial flag has the national symbol in the corner, varying colours of stripes. (I think this is quite boring, but could possibly be improved) If anyone has any suggestions or ideas, or wants to design their own provincial flags, feel free to leave them below. When designing your own flags, as discussed above, I think the main considerations should be: ↳ Coherency and unity between provincial flags ↳ Symbols which are culturally Indralan (or haven't been used by another Gao-Showan (asian) nation in the game) ↳ Ideally, a connection to the national flag or symbolism, though not absolutely necessary. |

Message | I really like the idea of shaped provincial flags with national-colored borders. |

Message | I agree that we need to change provincial flags, our old ones look like they've been just randomly been thrown together from any nation in Asia. I also like the first idea. It's unique, allow for a provincial symbol, and honestly I think it looks a lot better than the second. |

Message | Okay, since you guys like the first of my suggestions I made a couple quickly for thoughts: Probably Jiaozhi: https://i.imgur.com/8gS4T9n.png Probably Anle: https://i.imgur.com/lwrGUtD.png Probably Shu: https://i.imgur.com/DSmJa2D.png Han or Min: https://i.imgur.com/QpoOK34.png |

Message | My only concern with Jiaozhi, while I do like it, is the similarity with Kyo/Dranian symbology. |

Message | I thought so too, but my personal justification was that Guidao (taoism) was founded and is unique to Indrala, and the Yin Yang symbol is most associated with this religion. Further, I am considering writing "findings" which establish Guidao's origins as in the early Kingdoms of Indrala which for the most part were centred in Jiaozhi. |

Message | I think using the symbol is fine but maybe use black and white as opposed to red and blue. Taoism IRL actually uses black and white and Korea IRL uses red and blue. So that can possibly make it clear that we're not dankuk. Anyways the flags look really nice :) |

Message | Using black and white could be a good move. Thinking about it more, what I will say is that Dankuk's use of the Taegukgi has not actually been the red and blue version. In fact, I don't know that it has ever been used, at least in my time there. Rather Dankuk has always used a red, blue, and yellow version of the circle. So maybe the red and blue is fine after all??? |

Message | Although in may stance, I should not like these flags because none of them represents Yingdalan Proletarians. But, in terms of art, I think your design is fascinating. |

Message | If Dankuk hasn’t used a purely red and blue version of it, I think we should keep Jiaozhi’s symbol the same, as personally I think the red blue looks better with the rest of the flags than black and white. And playing off it’s similarity, Indrala, especially Jiaozhi, has had a large influx of Kyo refugees, so we could perhaps tie the symbol into that as well. |

Message | Thanks for all the comments! I mostly did the colours of the yin yang similar to the Taegukgi subconsciously, but also since I was attempting to use just those three colours for the most part (green, blue, red). I created one where the green is swapped with the blue, but it doesn't look awful: • https://i.imgur.com/qDOwRpx.png If Dankuk has never used it, it might be fair to say that it's not part of their iconography? Especially if we start to enhance the level of our Guidao RP and really appropriate the symbol. I may have to break from the three colour paradigm though anyway... If anyone uses photoshop and wants the template for the flag I can send it to you, or just a .png of the flag with different coloured backgrounds, etc. etc. |

Random fact: Players who consent to a particular role-play by acknowledging it in their own role-play cannot then disown it or withdraw their consent from it. For example, if player A role-plays the assassination of player B's character, and player B then acknowledges the assassination in a news post, but then backtracks and insists the assassination did not happen, then he will be required under the rules to accept the validity of the assassination role-play. |
