Bill: Reforming Legal Aid Bill
Details
Submitted by[?]: Green Progressive Alliance [PAG]
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 4393
Description[?]:
Mr. President, It has come to our attention that a large chunck of our tax payers money is being channeled into the Judicial Department to cover the costs of defendants in criminal cases. We propose a change in legislation to cut that funding, applying it only to defendants with a low income. In our view, a person who own thousands of dollars each month can pay for himself, whilst a person living in poverty can not. We don't want to spend the money of tax payers on wealthy criminals, thus leaving their ammased (criminal?) fortune intact. Mr. President, We propose the following change in legislation: CURRENT: Legal representation for defendants in criminal trials is paid for by the state. PROPOSED: Legal representation for defendants in criminal trials is paid for by the state for defendants with low incomes. |

Message | Mr. President, We ask our collegues in Parliament to speak out on this Bill. We would like to have an open debate about this, before we commence the voting procedures. |
Date | 04:53:17, May 13, 2018 CET | From | National Workers' Party of Gaduridos | To | Debating the Reforming Legal Aid Bill |
Message | As it currently stands, the NWPG will abstain from voting on this bill. While we agree that using taxpayers' money to defend wealthy criminals is absurd, this bill could lead to a divide between public and private defense lawyer, making it impossible for poorer defendants to be fairly represented. |
