Description[?]:
Caecian Law on Tariffs Senators, "Free trade" is the rallying cry of consumerism and unrestricted capitalist accumulation. Free trade, its proponents argue, is a vehicle for economic efficiency, which is nothing but an euphemism for the accumulation of profit, ignoring the moral dimension in favor of unlimited greed. We in the Republican Party believe that economics should not be divorced from morality. In our quest for an ever higher GDP and limitless growth, we seem to have forgotten that economic choices have moral consequences. Not that we are arguing against profit on its own. It is perfectly natural for one to seek to improve one's lot in life. But this improvement must not come at the expense of others. What the consumer sees is the attractive packaging and the cheap price, but remains blissfully unaware of the dreadful conditions in which these cheap products were made. It is only when the products are made locally that we may have any idea of the conditions in which they were produced. Otherwise we only get glimpses of the slave labor and sweatshop conditions that international media sometimes reveals, without challenging our pursuit for ever higher profits and amoral economic growth. We therefore call for the Republic to immediately introduce high tariffs on all products produced outside Selucia, allowing us to develop a moral economy and end this vicious obsession with unrestricted growth.
