Message | Anita Flying Eagle, Minister of Agriculture: "We agree with the NDP that the use of pesticides should be more stringently monitored, but beyond simple notification the Ministry of Agriculture must be given authority to research, regulate, and approve the use of all chemicals applied to foodstuffs. Such regulation would have to be done on a scientific basis, of course." |

Message | Ayodele Awojobi, Minister of Environment and Tourism Mr. Speaker, I could not agree more with the Minister of Agriculture. The impacts that certain pesticides have go far beyond merely the impact on foodstuffs and it is important to ensure that all equities are appropriately taken into account. All the more reason to ensure that we have a nationally-consistent policy on how we treat potentially dangerous chemicals. |
