Bill: Sovereignty Protection Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Lodamun Labour Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 4401

Description[?]:

Members of the Presidium,

The LLP considers the protection of Lodamun and it's citizens to be of great importance. The LLP is critical of the current foreign policy that this country has. In the eyes of the LLP there isn't a strict enough policy protecting the integrity of our nation. For this the LLP proposes the following.

1. Currently the law allows for citizens of Lodamun to obtain a passport on demand. The LLP see's a security risk in this, as fugitives can easly obtain a passport and flee to other nations. The LLP therefore proposes to only issue pasports after an invasive security check. -- Changed to cursory security check.
2. The LLP believes our tax money should be spend on our citizens. For this the LLP suggests to change the current rate of foreign aid to only disaster relief aid.
3. Protecting our industry and our argiculture is of great importance for the LLP as it guarantees quality products and food for our citizens as well as jobs for our population. The LLP suggests that we impose protectionist tariffs and quotas on all imports. - removed
4. The current law is too welcoming to refugees of all sorts. The LLP considers it to be our duty to help those in need, but doesn't think we should grant access to every refugee for whatever reason. Only in extreme circumstances the LLP wants to give refugee approval to stay in our nation. The LLP is willing to grant them aid for integration in the great nation of Lodamun.
5. Our nation's borders are nearly unprotected, foreign vistors may enter when they please. Terrorists, warcriminals, insurgents etc. can easily use our nation as shelter or commit crimes in our nation. The LLP wants strict border control with intensive security checks. Only in this way we can guarantee that law and order will be upheld. For this we believe that our nation should withdraw from the The Alboro Agreement - International Agreement on the Gradual Abolition of Checks at SU and NSEC Common Borders. - removed

The LLP looks forward the opinions of the other parties in the presidium.

MessageMr. Speaker,

we do not agree on the article on quota. Anyone is welcome in Lodamun, regardless of their nationality. The only thing we wat is that those comig to our nation adapt to the rules ad the behaviour within our nation.
If the article on quota would be removed, we will happily support this bill.

MessageMr. Speaker,

The Liberal Progressives see this bill as somewhat dangerous due to its possibility to be perceived as being xenofobic. The Liberal Progressives are sceptical about the infringement on our citizen's rights in the first article (concerning the issuing of passports) and the infringement of free trade in the third article (the imposing of tariffs). If those two articles were to be scrapped, the Liberal Progressives might be inclined to support it, given proper reassurance that we don't lose our hospitality towards the people who deserve it.

MessageMr. Speaker,

-We can agree with your stance on foreign travel, but we believe the proposed article is too strict. We think policy change to a cursory security check could suffice.
-We can agree with the stance on foreign aid.
-We cannot support the international trade article. We are against protectionism as it could hurt our trade with other countries, which could hurt our economy.
-We can agree with the refugee policy.
-We believe the current law on borders is sufficient and will not support a withdrawal of the Alboro Agreement.

In its current state, we cannot support this bill. Points 2 and 4 we agree with and would support a bill with just those.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Lodamun is not a nation consisting of one people. We have always been a melting pot of cultures, beliefs, origins and dreams. Article 4 ignores the history of our great nation. We have always been the home of the huddled masses, we have been home to the dreamers, but also the outcasts of Terra. We are a shining beacon of light, of freedom, of democracy, of social justice. This bill, brought forth out of petty nationalism, out of ignorance and xenofobia, will not have our support. We are a land of multitudes, we shall not become singular. The entirety of this bill is an affront to this nation, and is unbecoming of this Presidium. We shall not and will not support any article within this bill!

MessageMr. Speaker,

The Liberal Progressives are divided about this bill. We can support the second and third article, considering the cutting of government expenses that they include. We do not, however, consider the increasing of security checks on our own citizens to be particularly beneficial. We will vote in favor of the bill for the sake of the policies we do approve of, but we would have preferred the LLP to push the articles through separately.

Random fact: Particracy allows you to establish an unelected head of state like a monarch or a president-for-life, but doing this is a bit of a process. First elect a candidate with the name "." to the Head of State position. Then change your law on the "Structure of the executive branch" to "The head of state is hereditary and symbolic; the head of government chairs the cabinet" and change the "formal title of the head of state" to how you want the new head of state's title and name to appear (eg. King Percy XVI).

Random quote: "The root source of wealth is human ingenuity. This has no known bounds, so the amount of wealth in existence can always be increased. That's why capitalism is called 'making money.'" - Marc Geddes
