Bill: Refugee Act of 2063
Details
Submitted by[?]: Proletariat Revolution Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 2065
Description[?]:
While we should try and help all those that need help, refugees can be a strain on the social welfare system. The taxpayers would like to see their money go to services that they use themselves.
This is not to discourage immigration, but, since it's obvious that there is a call for fiscal responsibility, we can't support all the refugees that come through official channels. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The national refugee policy.
Old value:: invalid choice
Current: All refugees are welcome, regardless of their reason, and given aid in integrating them into the country.
Proposed: Only refugees that are victims of extreme circumstances are welcome; no aid is given to them.

From | Proletariat Revolution Party | To | Debating the Refugee Act of 2063 | Message | But, we already have immigration as well, doesn not that add to the economy anc ultural diversity? (I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just asking). |

From | National Centrist Party | To | Debating the Refugee Act of 2063 | Message | If refugees are draining social welfare, then we should restrict social welfare. We shouldn't tell these people that we can't take them, just that we won't give them handouts if they come. |

From | People's Party | To | Debating the Refugee Act of 2063 | Message | The previous bill already allowed for that. Refugees from abroad can come here on a tourist visa and then apply for refugee status. All it requiredd was that refugees make their presence known to the Likatonian govt. They could even come here illegaly and then apply for refugee status if the situation in their home countries did not allow them to approach a Likatonian embassy for a visa. |

From | Proletariat Revolution Party | To | Debating the Refugee Act of 2063 | Message | This is to encourage a clean up of the refugee system so that those who are truly refugees can get in and not just those fleeing because they don't want to woe to their responsibilties. This will make it easier for those fleeing genocide, politicial oppression etc to get asylum and to make those who are not truly in danger apply through the official immigration channels. |

From | People's Party | To | Debating the Refugee Act of 2063 | Message | I would only support illegal immigration in special circumstances....like when thaere are no other options for refugees. |

From | People's Party | To | Debating the Refugee Act of 2063 | Message | How would we implement it - to determine who is fleeing from extreme circumstances? |
Date | 07:45:20, June 08, 2005 CET |
From | National Centrist Party | To | Debating the Refugee Act of 2063 | Message | We would actually support this on the grounds that frequently, during extreme circumstances, "official channels" are shut down and/or overwhelmed. |

From | Proletariat Revolution Party | To | Debating the Refugee Act of 2063 | Message | Especially since official channels are opened for regular immigration. So, doesn't refugee usually mean that the person is the victim of extreme circumstances? |

From | Liberal Party for Equality | To | Debating the Refugee Act of 2063 | Message | the problem with these proposals is the shoddy wording. it doesnt stipulate how our immigration system works, so it is hard to know what falls under the category of refugee. |
Date | 12:30:28, June 09, 2005 CET |
From | National Centrist Party | To | Debating the Refugee Act of 2063 | Message | I vote we should treat it like an immigration bill - and then make our borders fully open. That's one of the options. |
