| Mr Speaker, I have carried out a review of our current standing army and reservist numbers and used projected "wartime scenario" models to see how effectively these personnel can be supplemented with reinforcements if necessary. In conclusion I believe the current law hampers our ability to recruit new troops in the case of sustained large scale conflict. Old value:: There shall be no mandatory military or civilian national service.
Current: All adults upon completion of schooling must serve a term in the military, but can shorten their term/forego it completely by paying a certain amount of money.
Proposed: All adults upon completion of schooling can be required in times of war to serve a term in the military.
