Description[?]:

there are no arguments, as is the world today, that justify this unsupportive and undemocratic policy with others.

Refugees, as their name suggests, are people who seek refuge, fleeing from the problems that may exist in their countries of origin, and denying them help only minimizes us as people. They must be provided, in an adequate, proportionate and controlled manner, help so they can rebuild their lives, and they can feel that Selucia can become their new home. Against populist rhetoric, it has been shown on numerous occasions that immigration, including refugees, is a source of wealth for a country, in many ways.

In relation to the visit of foreigners to the nation, it is not logical that a country like ours, where tourism plays a very important role, maintain such restrictive policies and have no basis to rely on. Selucia already has enough controls to prevent anything bad from coming from abroad, and our confidence in the security forces of the State is absolute, so we do not see any sense in the application of these security controls at this time.

MessageSenators,

While we would agree in theory with an improvement in our asylum policy, we do not support this degree of laxness in defending our borders, and in fact we are willing to campaign for further reduction of tourism. Tourists are loud, annoying, and cause harmful environmental damage and destroy the uniqueness of our monuments. We welcome any policy that would reduce our dependence on mass tourism and would drastically reduce the number of tourists entering our nation.

MessageSenators,

I have to disagree with Hon. al-Mutanabbi. Most of the tourists who visit these lands, and speaking first hand, Insularia, are families or groups of friends that seek to learn about our culture, visit the architectural wonders of our age and relax in the warm environments of our coasts, without causing any conflict or annoyance. And this, apart, brings a great economic and cultural benefit to our nation that can not be denied. It is true that, as everywhere, some people will always come to bother and disturb the environment, but what should be done in these cases is to harden the penalties and sanctions on those individuals, and not punish and chase away all those who do not seek more than knowledge and well-being in our lands, and perhaps even to become future citizens. For that reason, we are open to discuss the sanctions that can be applied to those annoying tourists, but we believe that sanctioning all the tourists that come to our nation is simply counterproductive, retrograde and populist, and we do not understand the position of Factio Republicana using that argument.

MessageSenators,

Our problem is not with tourism in general, our problem is with mass tourism. The negative impact of mass tourism has little to do with the personal behavior of the tourists themselves and is rather a result of the industrialization and commodification of travel. This has caused a race to the bottom where various destinations and resorts try to attract tourists at all costs, airlines discount prices, and tourists come to see cheap travel as a right not a privilege. Mass tourism causes rents to rise, local shops to disappear, creates low-wage jobs, and generates pollution. Mass tourism causes cities to depend on tourists for revenue, creating an unsustainable economic monoculture that is disastrous in the long run. This is not because tourists are ill-meaning or malicious. This is because they are ignorant of the negative consequences of their behavior.

If In Marea believes we can still benefit from tourism while reducing its harmful impact, then I suggest we introduce a high tourism tax, ban renting by tourists and require the government to approve housing for each individual case, close off the most vulnerable natural destinations to all visitors, create tourist only areas, ban backpacking to "undiscovered" pristine areas, and demand a high tax for visiting our most important monuments. But frankly I don't think any of these policies would be enough and tourism will still destroy our environment. We should be welcoming to refugees and those fleeing persecution and poverty, but not to privileged middle and upper-middle class foreigners who just come to get their touristic fix, destroy everything in their path, harm our economy and environment, and then just leave. Our motto is "refugees welcome, tourists fuck off". The only policy that will end mass tourism and protect our environment and jobs is to restrict the number of people coming into our nation. If we do that then we would be willing to expand our asylum policy.
