Bill: TOC (Train Operating Companies) Reform

Details

Submitted by[?]: Verdes, Progressistas, Socialistas (DAT)

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 4409

Description[?]:

As by our legislation, "Private companies operate TOCs throughout the country". Once again, we find ourselves in a position of deep shame and aversion.

It is undoubtable that a certain degree of free market needs to exist, but we believe that it needs to be as close to the citizen as possible. Why should we give up our duty as the state to serve our fellow citizens and decide to let private and foreign companies run such basic and essential services such as transportation? Why should we let these big capital companies be free to overprice their services and systematically deny good quality transportation to those who cannot afford those sky-high prices?
This is why we propose to nationalise (at least in part) TOCs, so that all citizens can see their right to move freely inside the country respected and protected. A good point to start could be the nationalisation of the national service, leaving private companies operating only regional TOCs.

This is why we urge you to vote yes, and remember that by establishing fair and public transportation for all citizens, we can all break the chains that constrain us to become a more independent and caring country when it comes to fight foreign interests and serving our fellow citizens with zest and dignity.

Vote yes, defend your rights.

- Isabel Oliveira, PPU spokesperson
- Flávio Rocha, candidate to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport
