Description[?]:
Imagine this scenario: You own a small car company. You're growing but in the early stages of setting up your business. You're just barely making enough money to pay yourself and the few employees you can afford. Then, one day, the government announces that they don't like the kinds of cars you make. They only like the kinds of cars your rival, Bob, makes. So, the government decides to give a tax break to Bob's company. This tax break acts as a pre-emptive subsidy by not taking as much of Bob's profits. Since the government has decided to become Bob's sugar daddy, he can sell cars for cheaper, since he doesn't lose much money to taxes. People buy your cars less and less, because, unlike Bob, you can't lower prices and supplement lost income by paying lower taxes. So, after a while, you declare bankruptcy, and you and all of your employees are now unemployed. I don't know what happens to you from here, maybe you become homeless. All I know is that the government in this scenario sure doesn't care what happens to you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In addition to that little thought experiment, it's concerning that this doesn't specify what "environmentally friendly fuels" are. If it's referring to things like fuel made from corn oil: My problem with those fuels is that they are incredibly expensive and inefficient to produce, and any company making cars for that fuel would be leeching off the people of Beiteynu for an eternity before those fuels become economically viable, if they ever do. If it's referring to electric/hybrid cars: that's where the "environmental damage" part of this bill's name comes in. Electric cars are irrefutably more damaging to the environment than a gasoline car, let me explain: First of all, electric car batteries are made of lithium. For those of you who don't know a lot about lithium, it releases immense amounts of toxic gasses and CO2 when it's mined. Secondly, I'll ask you a question, where does the power for electric cars come from? Most of it likely comes from coal and oil power plants. So, is gasoline more damaging to the environment than a Coal power plant in your opinion? Thirdly, I'll circle back to the first point. Eventually, all cars stop working and have to be scrapped for parts. Taking apart the dead lithium battery at the center of every electric car, once again, releases all manner of gruesome toxins into the air; and lots of them. |

Random fact: Cultural Protocol bills must provide a real-life equivalent or short description for the ethnic groups, languages and religions contained in them, such that it would be easy for an unfamiliar player to understand (e.g. "Dundorfian = German"). Where appropriate, they should also provide guidance to players on where to find help with translations and character names. This might include, for example, links to Google Translate, Behind the Name's Random Name Generator and Fantasy Name Generators. |
