Bill: The "That Atroscious Anthem Needs Changing" Conference

Details

Submitted by[?]: Pnték Znkak Prta 'Bastardry'

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 2208

Description[?]:

Here is the present monstrosity in all it's "glory".
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All of us! For our Country, for our Flag and Glory!
Our valor and our writings are the envy of the ages.
Our mountains and our valleys, they bring forth stalwart men.
And to Perfection all our efforts we devote.
All of us! For our Country, for our Flag and Glory!

Our Elders and our children, they await our Country's call,
And on the Day of Crisis they are as Lions of the Jungle.
The heart of our West is ever Pontesi,
May God preserve her until end of time.
All of us! For our Country, for our Flag and Glory!

The Gems of the West are her land and sea.
Throughout the world her good deeds flow from pole to pole.
And her name is her glory since time began.
Immortality's Symbol is her Pride.
All of us! For our Country, for our Flag and Glory!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hear it and it just makes my heart swell with sarcastic "pride" and my stomach swell up with my lunch. People, this anthem doesn't rhyme. It has doesn't have a set syllable pattern. One syllable more or less a line is fair enough, poetic license to a degree, but it lacks flow.

Long story short, it's dross and it has to go.

Which brings us back to why we're here. I propose we change this. "So you want us all to approve YOUR idea of an anthem?", I hear you scream in astonishment, "Sod that!". I'm not going to slap my idea of a perfect anthem on here and force you all to accuse me of bigotry and hypocracy. I want, no... I need your input on this. Riddle me this:

"What ONE symbol represents Pontesi to you, and why?"

Pick something that you feel at least some of the others will agree with, because I'm going to try and string them all into an anthem that rhymes, has flow and if I have time, I might work on finding a suitable tune for it. If I have more time, I might actually compose one properly. If I have EVEN MORE time, I might even attempt to sing and record it for comedy value. Should make the Pontesi wikipage more interesting.

As I'm volunteering to the stringing together and tinkering, I'm not going to propose an symbol, however, as an added incentive for you to pick something good, I'll choose the best one to be the anthem's main theme and title (ie what "All of us! For our Country, for our Flag and Glory!" became in the old one, but hopefully without the nausea inducing properties.).

MessageI think we should just steal some classic 70s rock and replace appropriate words with "Pontesi". Or even better, replace said words with something completely irrelevant.

MessageThat's great, FFYRTP... pity it isn't what we're after. Try again please. :P

We can, however, make it a rock tune if consensus agrees. I could imagine seeing "Fascist Rock" in HMV...

MessageThe sun on the meadow is summery warm.
The stag in the forest runs free.
But gather together to greet the storm.
Tomorrow belongs to me.

The branch of the Abure is leafy and Green,
The river gives its gold to the sea.
But somewhere a glory awaits unseen.
Tomorrow belongs to me.

The babe in his cradle is closing his eyes
The blossom embraces the bee.
But soon, says a whisper;
"Arise, arise, Tomorrow belongs to me"

Oh Fatherland, Fatherland, Show us the sign
Your children have waited to see.
The morning will come When the world is mine.
Tomorrow belongs to me!

MessageThe idea is, Phalanx, that everyone suggests one idea so we can incorporate every party's views as a universal comprimise. Also, I thought such an individualist anthem as you proposed went against your "all for one and one for all" opinions on national unity.

MessageYour never get an anthemn via the first method, why is this anthemn individualist, and I thought we used to be federalist.

MessageWe've already got some co-operation with the first method, hence this is a debate at the moment - it's patience for a better result instead of stamping one mantra over everyone: it will require 2/3 after all. We'll take your suggestion for a motif as "a brighter tomorrow", and thanks for your contribution. I was merely commenting on the "Tomorrow belongs to me" line as being individualist (not criticising, just surprised), and the last I saw of you back in 2170* you seemed to be promoting national unity and you're slightly unitarist at the moment.

*Remember Kurui? Long time no see.

MessageVaguely :P

However, do the CBP have an ideas, there is the (very poor) theme of making the anthemn about the national animal, what now? Are there any verses that stick out?

MessageUnfortunately, I'm suffering with mumps at the moment, so the high fevers and headaches are interfering with my thought at the moment, we will propose one in a separate bill (which we can forsee you will probably rubbish :P) when my head's back to its normal state. Well, relative normality.

Message"oh Fatherland Fatherland Show us a sign"... That's a very good line and I like it. In fact, I like it a lot. So much, I've got a preliminary idea here for you to nitpick and suggest changes to:

Oh Fatherland, Fatherland, show us a sign,
To lead us from hatred and substance malign;
I wake from my slumber and gaze at the day,
Yet look to you always to show me the way;
Through sword, bow and arrows, the perils I've slayed,
Would make e'er a weaker man sorely afraid;
But with such a guidance I'll never stray,
My Fatherland is my way.

Oh Motherland, Motherland, tell us again,
Of those you repulsed as they challenged your reign;
The grass recalls battles, our stalwart prowess,
The hawks soaring over note how we progress;
Our sterling achievements remain at our core,
We're once, twice, thrice, evermore striken with awe;
But with my own glorious part to play,
My Motherland is my way.

Oh Pontesi, Pontesi, let us once more,
Praise your grand name as our fathers before;
As one valiant nation to challenge the sins,
That fell naive countries whose morals wore thin;
The most taxing challenges we will complete,
The strongest of enemies we will defeat,
But with such a realm that'll always stay,
My Pontesi is my way.

On another note... Pontesi's almost 50 years old.

MessageThe point is they're synonymous, also with Pontesi in this case. It also implies the stereotypical differences in maternal/paternal support, and that Pontesi has both, whereas most other nations would pick one and completely ignore the other. Hence an anthem respecting both should probably be groundbreaking...

    Random fact: Moderation reserves the discretion to declare RP laws invalid if the players supporting them are doing so in an excessively confrontational way.
