Message | Madame President, Respected Members: Kaviysh ‘Horim, as the representative of orthodoxy and rigorous observance of the Yeudi faith, would be remiss to ignore the fact that expanding access to abortion is included within this bill. Our scriptures have foundational elements early on that are forbidding of terminating pregnancies, especially healthy pregnancies. In the Katub, our forefather, the Great Prophet and teacher Ariel, tasked by Elyon to go to our promised land of Beiteynu, was visited by the angel Shai in a dream, where the following revelation was made: “you have lived as a child of Elyon even in your mother’s womb, your purpose has been blessed fortnights before you have seen the light of the sun, and anointed before precious herbs could touch your feet” (Mossath 4:12.). It is confirmed in the Katup, the old book of rabbinic interpretation of the Katub, that this piece of scripture, and others, relate that in the eyes of Elyon his people are alive at conception. Castius of Perna says in the Katup, to settle an argument about the naming of children before birth, or assignment of a spiritual name, as was the tradition of Yeudis in Coldania at his time, that “Our forefathers were taught by the hosts that human life begins at the harrah (conception), the defilement of the wedding bed indicates the birth of man in the eyes of Elyon: the birth from the womb is birth to the world, birth to the womb is birth to the creator” (Castius to the Cildanians 3:32.) Yet, in the Lmed, the 25th century teacher, Rabbi Moshe Okenbaum, wrote to the question of pregnancy termination more explicitly: “In the scriptures, and in the eyes of the teachers, the human is born after the meeting of the father and the child’s mother in marital love, indeed, however, when we are asked by today’s circumstances about cases where pregnancy will kill the mother and child, I must cite that from the oldest texts of the Katub, commands are made to cast out lepers if it will save but one of the tribe” (Okenbaum 5:15.) Thereofre, our opposition is clear and full against liberalizing access to pregnancy terminating procedures, for the unwant taking of a life is abomination Rebbe Schlomo Barnebaum, ADMOR Sholemberger Rabbi, Kaviysh ‘Horim’s Spiritual Leader |
