| Madam Speaker, Too often have we seen, at various times throughout the history Terra, large corporations and businesses succeed and pay their CEO's and CFO's and COO's large and exorbitant salaries and wages. And when economic headwinds turn, and they do turn, it is the regular everyday working people who have their wages cut or their jobs lost. It is well and good in this country that we have a living wage. A minimum wage that on which someone can support themselves. We are in full agreement with this. However, it is our belief that there should be, too, a maximum wage. When a business does well and makes larger and larger profits, it should not be legally possible for those at the top to take for themselves, ad nausieum, all of that excess profit. There should be a maximum limit to which they can reward themselves. After discussion here on the floor with the Socialist Party we propose that the maximum wage be no more than 10 times the minimum wage, and furthermore: Dividends should be limited to no more than 2% of the annual share price a year, and then all remaining profits should either be reinvested into expansion of the company or distributed equally all employees as a profit sharing bonus. |
