Bill: Reasonable Adulthood Age Act 4424 II

Details

Submitted by[?]: Secular Humanist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 4425

Description[?]:

Mr. Speaker,

Apparently there was failure in presenting the bill during the last proposal. This will attempt to correct this. I have left the reasoning below.

In 4421 our party proposed this change before with the following reasoning:

"The age of adulthood currently in law is only 16. This is below the age that a human being has reached adequate cognitive ability for understanding the complexity of policy. Research has shown that people below the age of 21 are impaired in their comprehension of long-term implications of their actions. This could have serious negative outocmes if they are indeed allowed to vote for their own future.

We therefore propose that the voting age be raised to 18, which limits the amount of people that an vote without proper cognitive abilities, but does allow a few years for the youth to get into the political game."

We hope with the change of seats in the Presidium and support of the coalition that we can change this law.
