MessageMr. Speaker

I have had the pleasure and honour of working with and knowing the Honourable Member for Sutton East for the past thirty years in politics. Hutori is a nation of compassion, understanding and integrity, no one embodies these traits more then Russell. When he was appointed Ambassador to the Confederation of St. Muron I was truly saddened to know one of our best Parliamentarians was leaving this House and I am even more saddened by his departure; if not for a matter of under a million votes indeed we would be honouring President Selwyn, to truly show the wide support and admirmation the Hutorian people held and continue to hold for him.

Mr. Speaker, it has been truly the best years of my life to work alongside the Honourable Member, both here in Parliament and in Cabinet and it is my utmost hope that this House will rise in unity to honour his committment and service to Hutori.

MessageMr Speaker,

I hope this is ok, but I have a statement from the Rt Hon Brett Martin that I would like to read to the house.

"Russell Sewlyn is the embodiment of what it means to be a Hutorian. In my 30 years in parliament, there was nobody that I saw work harder than him. The people of Sutton were incredibly lucky to have him as their mayor, and then as their MP. When our government appointed him as an Ambassador, I knew that he would be an incredible representative of our nation, and I was not wrong. When Russell returned to parliament, he had not missed a beat and continued to fight for his constituents. While we may not have always agreed on policy, we always found a way to do what was best for Hutori. I cannot thank Russell enough for what he has done for our country. I am honoured to be able to call him a friend, and I wish him all the best in his future."

Mr Speaker, the honourable member has devoted his entire life to the betterment of Hutori. The least we can do is honour him like this. I too hope that this House can come together and support this bill.

MessageMr. Speaker,

That even the Reform Party with whom my friend Russell had so many battles has chosen to vote in favour of this resolution speaks volumes to the character of the man - and his old foes.

We are touched and grateful to this house for this act of kindness.

MessageMr. Speaker,

I am touched by your willingness to break protocol on my behalf. I cannot thank this body enough for continuing to do the hard work of governing for this nation. I have never met a single member of Parliament who does not firmly believe in his or her own heart that he or she is doing work that is just and right on behalf of the Hutori people.

I would also like to take this moment to announce that I will not be leaving public service just yet. I have been asked to serve as the Secretary General of the Northern Council, and I have accepted the position with the understanding that I will only serve as long as the Northern Council is engaged in the war in the Dovani Union. When peace is achieved, I will retire to Sutton where Nancy and I have purchased a cottage on the coast.

I now must leave for NOCTO Headquarters immediately.

Thank you all again for your service. God bless you, and God bless this great nation of Hutori!

Russell Selwyn
Secretary General of the Northern Council
