MessageIn a modern democracy such as Kalistan's, it is important that government employees and the civil service are appointed in a politically non-partisan manner. It is important that such employees affirm political independence.

For this reason, the New Liberal Alliance proposed to the Socialist-led government a bill to ensure an independent civil service.

MessageAs we say each and every time this is brought up by a new Party:

The Cabinet is appointed along political lines. The President is elected along political lines. Every single Deputy in the National Assembly represents a political ideology.

We all draw a paycheck from the Republic, which makes us Government employees.

To ask us to promise political independence is to ask us to lie, and to misrepresent our constituents, criminally.

Political independence in Kalistan is a fraud. There is no such thing in Kalistan. So you are essentially asking hundreds of thousands of workers, from the National Service, through all the National Industries, through the Regular Forces, through Republican and District Governments to promise political independence in exchange for their jobs.

This act would make us all, including the good speaker, who I assume hopes to some day also become a Government employee, criminals.

We will oppose. Just like we oppose it every time some new Party proposes it as one of their very first acts out of the gate.

MessageWe at the New Liberal Alliance thank Premier al-Khali for taking the time to respond to our proposal. However, we must disagree. We have a fundamental difference between our parties about how law defines a "government employee" in terms of party affiliation.

We do however recognise that this difference means language should be clearer. A New Liberal government will ensure that the focus on the civil service is made clear, and issue guidelines to that goal.

We request the National Assembly to advance our proposal is brought to vote immediately.

MessagePerhaps the Leader will clarify the matter sooner. Perhaps the Leader will clarify the matter in the description of this bill to select out all politicians, political appointees like members of the Cabinet, District Governors, and leaders of the bureaucracy, and actually advocate for denying the rights to association to all Kalistani citizens who are either required to or choose to take a job with the bureaucracy, Nationalized Industries and the National Service Program. This at least will make it clear on the NLA's position on civil liberties and the basic citizens' right to freedom of association.

We yield
Al-Khali
