Bill: Opt-out Organ Donation Act 4428
Details
Submitted by[?]: One World Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 4429
Description[?]:
Many people who may wish to donate organs are not aware of the proper procedure. An opt-out system would be more effective on religious and personal grounds, as it would allow those who explicitly do not wish to donate an option to opt-out, while ensuring that the organs of those who are not opposed can be put to good use. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The government's policy concerning organ donations.
Old value:: Organ donations are legal with personal consent.
Current: Organ donations are legal with personal consent.
Proposed: Unless otherwise stated, consent is assumed.

Message | Wouldn't it be more prudent to inform potential organ donors on the procedure before they give their consent, thereby allowing for more stability for organ donations? It appears that this bill assumes that people cannot opt out once they have signed up to donate. Also, by assuming consent, the government opens the door for many other ethical issues to arise |
