Voting deadline: March 4440
Description[?]:
The army needs to be a professional military corp again. For this, it is necessary that the person who enters into it is from their own conviction, and not by obligation. It takes people who really believe in the values that our military bodies transmit, and forcing people to join it, even for a short period of time, will be more harmful than beneficial. For this reason, the government will maintain the military or civil service of choice, but those who do not wish to do so may be exempt from it. For the same reason, it is important to keep clear the functions of the police and the army. It is unthinkable that both bodies can be replaced, since they perform very different functions, and to make the army perform the functions of the police is nonsense. In this way, both bodies can put 100% attention on their functions without worrying about the rest. Calavia Silo Minister of Defence |

Message | Senators, A professional military is a corrupt military. Not because of the personal failings of individual soldiers, but because its structure removes the members of the Armed Forces from the community and turns the military into its own distinct interest group. And a professional military is a military formed of the lower classes, who are the only ones that respond to the financial incentives provided by paid military service, which means that the poor will die in the wars of the rich. Conscription is thus more democratic and more republican. Same goes for civilian service and the police. We all have the duty to serve the Republic, not for monetary gain, but for its common benefit. It is undemocratic to turn civilian service or law enforcement over to financial gain, which cheapens its virtue and turns it into yet another job for pay. Iennifer Vinicia Opis Dux Oppositionis |

Message | Senators, The new Populist Party would support this bill. As a staunch supporter of the civilian power to solve their own problems, we support this bill. And, while conscientious objectors can be exempted from military support, they will support in other ways. In a modern military, it might be wise to exempt those who cannot serve anyways. In all reality, our large nation will have a very large amount of volunteers anyways. Drusus Labienus Mercator |
