Message | Mr Speaker, While I am all for allowing women to choose what they think is best for themselves, there are significant risks posed by later-term abortions. Therefore, we propose that abortions should only be allowed during during the first trimester (when most women terminate their pregnancies anyway). Message | Mr. Speaker, While I acknowledge the risks of later term abortions, they are far outweighed by the fact that this bill has nothing in the description about protecting victims of rape and/or incest and does not include an exception for fetuses which don't developed properly and could lead to infant deaths. It also does not take into consideration that if put into affect women are likely to seek illegal abortions witch are far riskier than legal ones. It also does not even mention the fact that even third trimester abortions have far lower rates of death and injury than giving birth. I ask all parties to vote this bill out because it is poorly written and poorly thought out. Message | Mr Speaker, While we would certainly be willing to rewrite this bill to make it more specific, we still want restrictions in regards to second-trimester abortions, specifically after 20 weeks, because at that point the fetus can already move around the uterus, and we feel that any termination after that period would be robbing the fetus the right to live. As for the MP from Carter City mentioning third-trimester abortions, that is certainly out of the question, as the fetus can already feel pain at that point.
