Description[?]:
Leadership elections for the UBWP after the resignation of long-time leaders Dr Marceli and Lord Trumanjovoic were held today, and were the first elections to be decided on the basis of popular vote by members of the party. 2,200,500 members were registered and turnout was high, at 98%. Nine candidates ran in the election, and they included newer and younger faces of the UBWP, many coming from the youth wing, although there were politicians from the Marceli era. These candidates included: Dr Janus Hartmann VI, 30, Leader of the Democratic Socialist Faction of the UBWP, Member of Iker Ado State Legislature Dr Sergine Line Antje Dieudonnée Pettigrew, 128, Iliathar UBWP Deputy Party Chief, UBWP Spokesperson for Defence Dr Jane Davidson, 39, Deputy UBWP Spokesperson for Internal Affairs Dr Tim Ábel Henning III, 30, Leader of the Social Democratic Faction of the UBWP, Member of Negunia State Legislature Dr Cecilia Rasmussen, 275, UBWP Spokesperson for Health and Social Services Millaray Beitris McDonald, 28, Leader of the Young Unsubmissives Dr Julius Furgenster IX, 32, Leader of the Left Wing Populism Wing, Member of Iker Ado State Legislature Dr Julius Furgenster VIII, 75, Member of Parliament for Iker Ado's 5th District Blair Vilma Sousa, 22, Member of Parliament for Iliathar's 2nd District Competition was close, with candidates offering bold, optimistic visions that were on different spectrums of the left-wing. Who will UBWP members choose as their next leader to bring them success? Will they choose the young faces of the party, or maintain the status quo that Dr Marceli blamed himself for contributing to? Results will be brought to you as they are announced tonight. |

Message | With 100% of the votes counted, the results are as follows: Sousa: 825,580 (38.28) ELECTED Furgenster IX: 481,500 (22.33) Hartmann: 287,220 (13.32) McDonald: 282,000 (13.08) Henning: 257,222 (11.93) Davidson: 17,460 (0.8) Rasmussen: 3390 (0.16) Furgenster VIII: 2076 (0.09) Pettigrew: 42 (0.01) Blair Vilma Sousa has been declared duly election General Secretary of the UBWP. In a shocking and historic political development, UBWP members today overwhelmingly voted against the status quo left behind by the Marceli era, opting to vote for anti-establishment candidates, showing that members and the support base of UBWP themselves did not align with the views of Marceli. Marceli era candidates only constituted 1.06% of the total vote, compared with the 98.94% for the new era politicians. With Ms Sousa being elected as General Secretary, she will be the youngest leader ever, at 22, overtaking Francis Romanovic and Christian Frederich's ages of 75 and 67 respectively. With Ms Sousa having low name recognition amongst the voting public, and with only 3 years to go before the next election, she has a long way to go to build up her national profile and a limited amount of time to propose a plan for the future of Beluzia. What exactly this plan will look like awaits Ms Sousa's State Council appointments. Will she guide the UBWP to their old radical path, or will she guide the UBWP to a more moderate left-wing path? We will bring you live updates as Ms Sousa announces her appointments in the hours to come |

Message | Correction, we counted Dr Jane Davidson as part of the Marceli era politicians, but she is not her aunt, Dr Marlene Davidson, and is instead part of the new generation of politicians. Taking away 0.8 from the 1.06% figure, only 0.26% of the total votes were to Marceli era candidates |
