Bill: Lex Sigilia de Scientific profectibus
Details
Submitted by[?]: Clara Aurora - COSIRA
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 4460
Description[?]:
In the 45th century, it's time to end the stigma about foods created by genetic modification. There is no reason, beyond feeding fear, confusion, paranoia and stigmatization, to mark foods that carry genetically modified products as such. For many years and many studies, it has never been scientifically proven that this type of product can have any harmful effect on health. Moreover, foods such as tomatoes or corn, are genetically modified foods themselves, but as this transformation was made centuries ago and by different methods, people are not aware of it. In this way, we take another step to bring science closer to ordinary citizens, and we end up with myths and false beliefs. Helios Sigilis Orator of In Marea-Civis Sinistram |

Message | Senators, Given that the safety of GMOs is not entirely known, we should acknowledge potential hazards and uncertainties regarding their effect on humans, animals, and plants. This will allow consumers to make an informed choice while minimizing potential harms, and also allowing those with social, religious, or health objections to genetically modified organisms to avoid such products. Gratianus Pompilius Minister of Health and Social Services |

Message | Once again, the government is hiding behind a supposed right of free choice to avoid getting wet in the problem and opening its eyes. That our Minister of Health does not know how genetically modified foods work leaves much to be desired. And yes, Mr. Pompilius, there are studies, and quite numerous, that guarantee their safety, while the only evidences against them are personal testimonies and pseudosciences, and you should never trust them in these cases. Should we conduct studies to assess the impact of electric light on our body, and until then, stop using it? It sounds absurd, and the same is with GM ingredients. Those people who have religious objections maybe should not vaccinate their children either, is not that so, Mr. Pompilius? Helios Sigilis Secretary of In Marea-Civis Sinistram |
