Bill: Patriotism Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Pnték Prsakij Prta (Phalangists)

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill proposes the withdrawal from a treaty. It will require half of the legislature to vote in favor[?]. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 2202

Description[?]:

This Treaty is a disgrace, we should not be polluting our cities with Seleucian influences, let alone making them of an equal nature.

We propose reasserting Pontesian cultural identity and therefore encourage a vote to remove Pontesi for this foul Treaty.

MessageWe have absolutely nothing against international co-operation, however we don't feel that our cities should be encouraging Seleucian culture.

MessageCBP, no-one suggested it wasn't reciprocal, we just don't feel the need to shove Seleucian culture down our citizens throats.

MessageYou'll notice the term is "mutual cultural awareness" not "forced acceptance and conversion". If they don't want it, they'll arrange to visit their grandmother on the same day as the events and not enter the gardens. Did you accept all the education you received willingly?

Leave the choice to the people. Your sheep are still Pontesian sheep.

MessageCBP - seriously, you're debating terms? We're going by the actual events on the streets, where Pontesian children are told that their culture is inferior to that of the Seleucians, that our children are fed Seleucian food, food that isn't fit for a dog, let alone a Pontesian.

Leave choice to the people? Fine we'll do that, once this treaty is overturned the taxpayer won't be funding the events, the government won't be supporting the events, thus the people will have a free choice.

MessageWe urge patriotic and libertarian parties to unite on this one. Should the government really be funding and supporting a trashing of Pontesian culture?

Message"We're going by the actual events on the streets, where Pontesian children are told that their culture is inferior to that of the Seleucians[sic]" - Wrong, the culture is promoted as equal, as you even ADMITTED in the bill description: "let alone making them of an equal nature.". As such, your "We urge patriotic and libertarian parties to unite on this one. Should the government really be funding and supporting a trashing of Pontesian culture?" call is erroneous, de facto.

"That our children are fed Seleucian food, food that isn't fit for a dog, let alone a Pontesian." - In your opinion and your opinion alone. Some people regard the eating of raw fish as disgusting, some people regard it as delicious.

If you feel that this is a branding of our own culture as "inferior", you've again ignored that the Selucians are being introduced to ours in an equivalent capacity. This is a promotion for international trade and understanding - free choice wouldn't exist were the people to not know the opinions available. You'd probably outlaw it anyway given a chance.

I implore all libertarian parties who see sense in promoting understanding to prevent the withdrawal from this bill and to leave the blinkered fascist and rabid nationalist views to grumble in the corner.

MessageThe Libertarian party is in favor of peaceful cooperation within the international community, but is not in favor of spending large amounts of the national budget on such affairs. The people should be free to support or reject the cross cultural influences, and this should not be subsidized by the government. The Libertarian party is undecided on whether we will support or reject this bill. The Libtertarian Party would prefer to modify the terms of the Sister City Agreement, than scrap it completly.

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature.

Random quote: "We are told that this is an odious and unpopular tax. I never knew a tax that was not odious and unpopular with the people who paid it." - John Sherman
