Message | Regretfully, we cannot support this proposal. We fear the creation of a military industrial complex from the formation of private defence industries, and that they may be unethical in pushing for wars so as to make more money. Furthermore, we also find nuclear weapons to be most useful in preserving peace through having them be part of a mutually assured destruction agreement. This presents more clearly that our nation wants to preserve peace above all else. Most of all, however, we are fundamentally opposed to the usage of land mines. They stay around long after the war has finished, and have been proven to kill more civilians than they do enemy combatants - sometimes a decade or two after the war finishes. They are particularly deadly for young children, who lose limbs - or worse, their lives - to the usage of land mines in their areas, sometimes placed there before they were even born.
