Description[?]:
Senators, This proposal follows on from the Minister of Internal Affairs' revelations of a terrorist team that were narrowly stopped from bombing this very building. (OOC - http://forum.particracy.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1585&p=142093#p142093). Their reason for attempting this is unclear but what it does show to us is that we must ensure our police and security services have the right weapons and protocols in place to do the job and to provide a greater deterrent against such undesirable radicals. This incident ended in success for our police and security forces but we must future proof ourselves against such incidents. It has long been our party's policy that we must have more robust law and order legislation in place which is based on a centralised government policy; therefore I propose the following: - All police are trained in, at the very least, semi-automatic weaponry usage and may carry such weaponry at all times in order to provide a visible deterrent. - Police officers should be seen carrying out patrols of public property at all times in order to provide a visible deterrent to would-be villains and in order to be able to keep a vigilant eye out for anything that is suspicious. - It should be made nationwide policy that police have stop and search powers in terms of people or property if they deem there are reasonable grounds of criminal behaviour and that they may arrest people suspected of committing a crime. Our law-abiding citizens require these reassurances in place for their safety and well-being. Quintus Viridius Fabianus Senator; Party Leader |

Message | Senators, The police become infinitely more successful at their job when they are trusted. But in order to be trusted they must be trustworthy. This means that the best police are those that people that interact with them actually know, their friends and families and colleagues. This is why we cannot abandon our commitment to community policing. Moreover, most crimes are not violent crimes, hence the use of military-grade equipment is unnecessary and ultimately counterproductive. This will lead to more, not less crime, as it will lead to increased police violence, less trust in the police, and conflict between our communities and our law enforcement. In fact, instead of these proposals, we'd rather suggest reintroducing police conscription, to guarantee that our communities ultimately police themselves. Benedictus Matinius Epimachus Senator |

Message | Senators, I agree that trustworthiness is a fine and vital attribute for a police officer to have and I have no doubt about the integrity of our officers or the trust that our citizens have in them. But I also believe the public need to be able to respect the police force, be reassured by their authority and know they have the tools in place to do the job - whatever the level of crime. This bill gives them the tools they need to have a real and visible presence on the streets and to beef up security to deter the most serious of crimes too. That said, I would be open to working on plans for a new sub-strata of local community officers who can carry out nitty gritty enquiries and liaise directly with members of the public and would welcome a conscription based system in each community to recruit them Quintus Viridius Fabianus Senator; Party Leader |
