Bill: Work With Dignity Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Libertarian-Socialist Coalition

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2203

Description[?]:

It is absolutely intolerable that millions among us work full time jobs yet are still below the poverty line.

What we're proposing is a minimum wage that will at least allow hard workers the ability to feed, house, and clothe themselves.

While this is a far cry from providing a reasonable living wage (which our fine country once had), we can at least ensure that there is an INCENTIVE to work. If I cannot pay rent by working 40 hours a week, then of course welfare is an attractive alternative. If I cannot afford to eat by working full time, then of course morale and productivity will suffer drastically.

The bottom line is this: A few bucks more an hour means far more to someone struggling to make ends meet than it does to someone who does not. This is an investment in our citizens - a decent wage with some dignity leads to better work performance.
